Steve's Curriculum:

Youth, Intro to Playwriting 

Ages 14-17

Curious how to get started as a playwright? Want to spark your next big idea into a theatrical production? Need exercises and formats to get you there? This 8 week course will give you the tools necessary to get started. Let’s get you writing. 

 

Here you’ll learn:

  • Scene a monologue building. correct formats, templates, and igniting your story.

  • Notes and discussion/constructive feedback.

  • A zoom staged reading of your play to be read by your classmates and BOM team members. 

  • Finished one act play or 4 scene progression. 

 

Dates/Times: Tuesday 6:00-7:30 pm, OCT. 12 - DEC. 14 (No classes Thanksgiving wkd.)

Final read: DEC. 14

Cost: $350.00

Youth, Audition Tools 

Ages 14-17

Audition tools, techniques and tricks of the trade. Do you have a big audition for your school play you want to nail? Are you auditioning for colleges and need help going over your material. From getting sides to cattle call auditions (monologues) this course will help give you the skills necessary to have a successful audition.

Here you will learn:

  • How do young people get audition experience ahead of their peers

  • The moment before, the moment after 

  • Explanation of Shurtleff’s  Guideposts

  • Feedback 

  • What auditors want to see 

  • Develop your portfolio

Adult, Audition Training

Ages 18 & up

Do you have a big audition coming up? Are you looking to work new material? Frustrated about  how to get the most of your sides? Trying to get into Graduate School? BOM artistic director,  Steve Bologna has worked alongside directors, casting directors and has ‘been in the room’ where these decisions are made. 

 

Here you will learn: 

  • The essentials to any good audition 

  • Turning you audition into a unique performance

  • Tried and true tricks of the trade 

  • Explanation of Shurtleff’s Guideposts

  • Warm up and calming exercises 

  • Feedback and advice on material

Lauren's Curriculum:

Youth, Intro to Scene Work and Character Work 

Ages 12-14

 

Develop your character and dialogue skills in Intro to Scene and Character Work! Here, students will have the opportunity to take an in-depth look at scenes and monologues from published plays. The goal of this course is to develop techniques and skills to become a fully present performer. 

 

Here you’ll learn:

  • Select several scenes and/or monologues to work on throughout the entire course- final class will be a live stream performance 

  • Utilize viewpoints and improvisation

  • Learning scene breakdown and other basic theatrical terms

  • Utilizing dramaturgy work

  • Getting into character work- i.e. creating backstory, understanding intention and improvisational work to create organic character development

  • By the final class, students will each have a scene  or monologue to perform for friends and family on Zoom

Dates/Times: Wednesday 6:00-7:30 pm, OCT. 13 - DEC. 15 (No classes Thanksgiving wkd.)

Final Performance: Dec. 15

Steve & Lauren's Combined Curriculum:

Youth, Beginning-Intermediate Shakespeare

Ages 14-17

Baffled by the Bard? Let Breach Once More founders Steve Bologna AND Lauren Burgat take you through a 8 week intensive master class on Shakespeare. Each class you will be split up in groups working alongside Steve and Lauren individually and then back with the full class for exercises and performance. You will get constructive feedback from both Steve and Lauren. You will have audition material and a firm grasp on classical acting styles in the modern theatre. 

 

Here you will learn:

  • How to take the fear out of the heightened language. 

  • Researching what something means 

  • Shakespeare’s  scenes and monologues. 

  • Sections on  Sonnets. Verse. Prose, Scansion. Script Analysis. 

  • Realism versus Elizabethan stage.

  • Production; By midterm we select as a group one of Shakespeare's plays and  and perform as many scenes and monologues, in sequence for the final. Family members are invited to the final zoom production

Steve Bologna Teacher Bio:

Steve Bologna holds a Masters in Fine Art in Creative Writing (playwriting), and a Masters of Art in Directing and Dramaturgy both from San Francisco State University. Steve has taught playwriting at SFSU and been a guest lecturer several times and serves on the recruitment committee to the department of theatre and dance. Steve has taught Shakespeare and Audition techniques to several Bay Area theatres, and acting schools, and teaches public speaking and presentation styles through Udemy online. Additionally, Steve works as a private acting and audition coach, several of his clients have booked work in local theatres and on  T.V and industrials. Steve is a member of actors equity association, and his voice over work has been heard in national commercials.
